2 - Taking a stroll around the Schlossberg

With its fantastic views of the city and excellent gastronomy, the Freiburger Schlossberg invites you to go hiking, exploring and simply to linger. The Dukes of Zähringen built the Burghalden castle in 1091 on a mountain spur, which gave the mountain its name: Schlossberg. At the same time, a settlement was built at its base, for which Konrad von Zähringen granted market rights in 1120 and promptly became immortal in the history of Freiburg as its founder. Link

3 - Swimming in Freiburg – Das Faulerbad

It is not just the central location that makes the Faulerbad one of the most popular Freiburg indoor swimming pools. It is also the relaxed and natural atmosphere that attracts many leisure swimmers every day. On Wednesdays, it is "late evening" time. You can swim until almost 11pm on this day. On Fridays, you can swim in almost 30 degrees of warm water. You can also combine a swim with a visit to the sauna. Look forward to pleasant time spent at the Faulerbad, for body and mind and soul. 4 - Schauinsland hikes

The Schauinsland is the 1,284m high local landmark hill of Freiburg and a popular excursion destination. It lies about ten kilometres southeast of Freiburg city centre. The summit of the Schauinsland lies on the "Freiburger Gemarkung", directly to the south is the village of Oberried, in the west the municipalities of Münstertal/Schwarzwald, Bollschweil and Horben. The Schauinsland offers great views in all directions, with a view of the nearby Feldberg, the Rheinebene with Freiburg up to the Kaiserstuhl and the neighbouring Vosges. The Schauinsland is an ideal starting point for hikes. Link

5 - Bicycling in and around Freiburg

Freiburg is a city of cyclists. More than 400 kilometres of cycling network and Freiburg's bustling population have made cycling the second most popular means of transport: nearly 30 percent of routes are covered by bicycle.

The surroundings of Freiburg also offer everything the cyclist wants. Sporty excursions to the Kaiserstuhl, Tuniberg or the Markgräflerland. Enjoy walking along the Dreisam to Kirchzarten or the Kaiserstuhl. The mountain biker will find the best trails on the Kybfelsen, Rosskopf or Schauinsland. Link

6 - Nordic walking at Schlossberg

On the nearby Schlossberg, a network of attractive stretches of different length are available. The Freiburg Nordic Fitness Park is equipped with its own signposting, which is designed in such a way that even outsiders can just simply begin. The park offers four tracks certified according to the guidelines of the International Nordic Walking Association, all of which have scenic forest paths. There are two difficulty levels (medium-difficult and challenging) to choose from on the 27-kilometre-long course. Link

7 - Wellness in Keidelbad

Enjoy unique and unforgettable wellness moments in Freiburg's beautiful thermal baths. Nestled in the natural environment of the Mooswald, the baths offer the best conditions to harmoniously synchronise body, mind and soul. A wellness area of over 6,000m² with eight swimming pools, seven saunas and a Turkish steam bath make the KEIDEL mineral thermal resort a unique place to relax, away from the hectic everyday life. 9 - Sand tennis in all seasons

Throughout the year, you can play tennis at the Freiburger gymnasium (FT). While five outdoor courts are available between April and October, two indoor courts can be used in the winter months. Reservation is required to use the courts.

In addition, the FT regularly offers tennis courses , which are given by long-standing and experienced tennis instructors. In individual or group training, you can either begin with the game of tennis or improve your moves.

10 - Squash

Freiburg Sportpark has many other leisure and sports activities on offer. A varied outdoor programme with tennis, beach volleyball, football, squash and much more (please make reservations). The attached restaurant also offers seasonal buffet dinners and special days, which round off a sporting day perfectly.

11 - Archery

Bogensport-Adventure offers its customers an opportunity to practise archery in their outdoor shooting range and, in bad weather, in their indoor shooting range (10 metres) too. If you do not have your own equipment, you can borrow it for the evening for a rental fee.

A prerequisite for the use of the archery facilities is attending a course from their programme.

12 - Martial arts

Five different martial arts can be learned and practised in the FT-Sportpark. Besides the well-known martial arts of judo, karate and taekwondo, there are also more exotic ones like aikido and jiu jitsu. Strengthen your concentration and coordination, develop your fighting spirit and master your self-defence.

13 - Riding

The Müller riding school is a top destination for riders and equestrian sports in the region. The riding school specialises in Western riding, riding lessons for children, young people and adults, as well as horse-riding.

The complex covers an area of three hectares and comprises a large and a small riding school, off-riding areas, lanes, 130 guest boxes, the run-out area and the riding stables. An annual tournament takes place on the grounds in Gundelfingen involving well-known national dressage and jumping riders.
